I like the previous version a lot. This one always has issues, bad enough for to make the effort of reviewing.

I love this app for the desktop a lot. The upgrade has been fantastic. Only thing I’d really appreciate is the ability to see my statistics on tweets like I can in the mobile app.
What I just titled this. I would also like to be able to add things to my reading list from here. I want polls. I want replies to line up next to the original tweet
It’s incredible that this is the official app of Twitter. What a SHAME!!!
App looks really cool now and is very responsive, I think full theme customization would be a very cool new feature
WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FIX THIS AMAZINGLY HORRIBLE, ALMOST UNUSABLE APP?!!! IT IS BEYOND HORRENDOUS. IN FACT, HORRENDOUS WOULD BE A STEP UP. NO APP OR PROGRAM ON MY MAC FREEZES, OR GIVES ME AS MUCH TROUBLE AS THE TWITTER APP. YOU’D BE BETTER OFF WITH THE OLD APP.
Auto-scroll is inconsistent and unreliable. Crashes constantly. Unbelievable that Twitter would release something in this state.
Kind of a dumpster fire these days, huh, Twitter? Get some better devs and QA for god’s sake. This should never have been pushed.
No excuse for such a pathetic application from a company this size. They claim they don’t have suficient resources to develop this internally, which speaks to their level of commitment to OS X. Just use Tweetbot or stick to the browser, don’t even bother with this.
I switched over to tweetbot just now, worth the money. Do not use this garbage app. It freezes constantly, hogs RAM worse than Chrome.
I like the app (in general) but my problem is it is too slow and it freezes as well. The app works like a charm on my iPad and iPhone so why can’t I expect the same for my MacBook? I wish there was an update to fix the bugs.
This app is not worth downloading, especially if you use “Scroll to Top”. Expect to find you timeline an hour old after it unexpectedly stops updating. Twitter obviously doesn’t care because this app continues to be flawed, update after update. A real head shaker.
I use Tweeter a lot with Facebook. Recently, with in the last 2 days, I am unable to use it. It is saying that ME account is private. There is no where to gain access to MY account using this app. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with no improvement. I cannot even log off/on to my account.
The twitter devs would be better of just writing off the entire 4.0 branch of code and starting with updates based on version 3 again. Everything is wrong with this version; the UI is clunky, the graphical responsiveness is jerky, old features aren’t present and the new ones don’t work, and it’s overall unstable. Keep a copy of the most recent version 3 somewhere safe, just in case you ever accidentally hit the update button.
Please, oh please give it split screen capabilities. I would give it another star for that alone.
Once upon a time the official Twitter app could scroll new tweets as they came in, just like every other Twitter app. But now, the official Twitter app from the people who bring you Twitter can only intermittently manage to do that. Apparently, they fired the folks who do the backend coding and replaced them with UI designers. This app shouldn’t be free, they should pay you to use it!
Well, Twitter, you have lost a user. I am more of a follower than a tweeter, so I really enjoy(ed) what amounted to the best news ticker around. But with the current version of the application it became impossible to just throw the app in the corner of the screen and go about my work with the occasional glance as to what was going on; it stops auto-scrolling, freezes when trying to look at a picture, crashes if there’s an embedded video, and can only go for a few minutes, piling up tweets that it should be auto-scrolling to the top of, before it locks up completely, causing me to force-quit the application. I’m far too casual a user to justify buying an alternative application, so if this application does not perform I don’t feel the need to use any other, or go to the website, or, frankly, anything. I’m surprised, frankly, that I would use this to post my first app review ever, but the problems are *so* egregious that I felt I had to add my voice to the fray. I concur with what others have said about the terrible redesign (the previous version was far more compact and fit better in the limited screen real estate) and I hope other applications are taking advantage and while I wish them well, I simply will stop being a Twitter user until I (hopefully) see a string of “Rock solid”, “Totally awesome update!”, “You’ve redeemed my faith in your app!” reviews for some (hopefully not too distant) future verison.
Twitter should not pretend to support a native Mac client. This one, even after an overhaul, is missing key features (threading, quoting, polls). More importantly, it’s buggy and unstable.
I like the new El Capital version, but the spacing between the icons in the side bar is way too much. Not all of us are using super high resolution screens, I’m still in 1280x800 and the spacing in the side bar and in the timeline itself is way too much. Please consider adjusting that.
Yes this is one of those reviews where I stare dumbfounded at all the negative reivews. I find it refreshing. It’s simple and clean. You can add multiple accounts, view lists, write tweets (imagine that!), send DMs, view/edit your profile, search, etc. I am not experiecing any crashing. Maybe everyone’s exepctation are too high or you need to update your OS? Good luck.
